Panettone French Toast

Panettone french toast is a “recipe” that we have been making in our household for over 20 years. It boggles our minds, why we haven’t put it out on our channel sooner !

Anyway, as the saying goes, “better late than never” !

Super easy, simple, quick to make and OH, so delicious !

For those of you who don’t know what a panettone is, it’s a type of delicious Italian sweet bread, filled with raisins and candied fruits, sold only during the

Christmas Holidays.

So, let’s get started in making some panettone french toast !

INGREDIENTS:

One panettone

6 eggs

1 1/2 cups (375 g) milk

2-3 tsps. (15-20 g) butter

GARNISH/TOPPING SUGGESTIONS

Pancake syrup or maple syrup

Chocolate syrup or caramel syrup

Honey or powdered sugar

Whipped cream or ricotta

Cut fresh fruits

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Remove the packaging paper. Cut the panettone in half, crosswise from the top. Then cut each half into approximately 1” (2 1/2 cm) slices. Set aside.

    2. In a large bowl, add 3 eggs and 3/4 cups (187 g) of milk. Beat well.

note that we only did half the pannetone in the video- using only 3 eggs. However our ingredients show you how to make one full pannetone into French toast with 6 eggs.

  1. In a non stick frying pan, melt a pat of butter.

  1. Dip both sides of the panettone into the egg & milk mixture. Fry the slices on each side (approx. 1 1/2 - 2 minutes on each side), until you achieve a golden brown colour.

5. Repeat step #4 with the rest of the slices. If needed, add more pats of butter in between frying.

6. Garnish with your choice of toppings & side accompaniments. We listed some of our family favourites, however; there are many other choices.

7. Set the table with all the garnishes, toppings, accompaniments & the platter of the panettone french toast, kind of a “buffet style setting”. This will allow your family members and guests to have control of their choice of portions.

Enjoy and thank you for viewing this recipe!
