Red Wine Sangria

Hot summer evenings are ideal for enjoying a nice cool glass of sangria.

A Spanish origin drink made from wine and fruit(which is the base to this drink) that wins people over with its flavours and freshness!

A fresh thirst-quenching drink - perfect to enjoy either as an aperitif before a meal with family and friends or as an evening cocktail.

Making sangria at home is quick and quite simple to make and relatively inexpensive because all you need is a good wine. There is no need to spend extra money to buy an expensive wine.

There are many variations of this delicious refreshing drink and in this video, we will show you our family’s version.

We will show and explain how to balance the body of red wine with the lemon-lime soda. However; best to taste the combination and make sure it’s to your liking. If needed, adjust the combination before adding the fruit into the pitcher.

Salute, or as they say in Spanish “Salud” !

INGREDIENTS: Makes a 2 quart (approx. 2 litre) pitcher

Prep time: 15 minutes

Chill time: minimum 3-4 hours

52 ozs (approx 1.4 L) good tasting red wine (no need for expensive wine)

24 ozs (approx 3/4 L) clear lemon-lime soda (we used Sprite)

2 firm peaches (washed and cut into wedges)

1 medium size orange (washed, skin on, sliced and cut into 4 pieces)

1 small lemon (washed, skin on, sliced and cut into 4 pieces)

Approx 15 medium size strawberries (washed, cut in half lengthwise)

DIRECTIONS:

1. Wash, slice and cut your fruits

2. In a pitcher, pour in the red wine and clear soda. Give it a quick stir.

3. Add in the fruits. Stir. Chill a minimum of 3-4 hours before serving.  This will allow the flavours of the fruits and wine mixture to meld.

4. Serve: Pour sangria in glasses, ensuring that each glass includes a mixture of fruit slices. Enjoy !

Now, wasn’t that easy !
