Panna Cotta (Translates to cooked cream with cooked wine in Italian)
Panna Cotta 🍮 is a silky, smooth, velvety creamy custard-like Italian dessert that is
served chilled. This dessert takes approximately 15 minutes to prepare.
It’s a very simple, easy delicious dessert and a decadent way to end a wonderful meal.
INGREDIENTS:
2 cups (500 ml) of heavy cream + 1/4 cup (100 ml) of heavy cream to soak the gelatine
1/2 cup (120 ml) of sugar
1 pack (1 tbsp or 15 ml) of gelatine powder
1 tablespoon (15 ml) vanilla extract
NOTE: you may also use almond, amaretto or rum extract)
TOPPING IDEAS: wild berry coulis, vino cotto, melted chocolate, honey 🍯, caramel syrup etc
DIRECTIONS:
1) TIP: To help un mold the Panna Cotta from the ramekins, give them a quick spray with cooking spray and with a paper towel, wipe the entire ramekins. If you don’t have any cooking spray, you may use a few drops of neutral oil. Or simply use serving glasses.
2) Pour the gelatine into a small bowl and pour the 1/4 cup (100 ml) of heavy cream over the gelatine. Give it a couple of stirs and set it aside so that the gelatine can absorb the cream.
3) In a medium size pan over a low/medium heat, pour the heavy cream, stirring constantly for approximately 10 minutes.
4) When you see that the cream is starting to slightly bubble, add the sugar , vanilla and the soaked gelatine. Stir till the sugar and gelatine have completely melted and dissolved, bringing the mixture to a “simmering” boil and remove it off of the burner.
5) Pour the mixture into the ramekins OR dessert glasses.
6) Wait till the panna cotta has completely cooled before covering them with plastic wrap and into the refrigerator they go to set for at least 6 hours; however, overnight is best.
NOTE: This dessert can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 2 days before serving your guests.
7) HOW TO RELEASE THE PANNA COTTA from the ramekins: With a sharp pairing knife, run it around the ramekins to help loosen the cream away from the ramekins, place a flat dessert dish over the ramekins and flip it over.
* If your are still experiencing some difficulties releasing the panna cotta, place the ramekin in a bowl filled with hot water, keeping it in hot water for about a minute or so, and try releasing it again.
8) Top the dessert with your choice of favourite toppings , we chose berries and a homemade vino cotto! simply decadent and delicious !
we hope you give it a try and enjoy ! 🍮
